The Reality of Change by Fred Johnson & Paul Metler

Book Two in the Rising Tide Leadership™ Series

Change will come, there's no escaping it.

Remaining stuck in status quo mode, fearing and avoiding change like the plague, only ensures you won't be ready for the inevitable. Mastering positive change, however, is key to extraordinary leadership and optimal business outcomes. So what can you do to harness the power of change as both an individual and a leader of a high-performing team?

Mastering positive change involves navigating emotional shallow water and relational collisions: resistance from within and without, blame, victimhood, false barriers, and other change-busters.

The Reality of Change takes a unique approach to change the way you lead: to anticipate and overcome the inner and outer obstacles so you can steer yourself and your organization through the positive change process.

You'll discover how to:

• Gain confidence in leading change by knowing what's to come

• Embrace and engage change as a pivotal leadership quality

• Counter resistance and naysaying

• Avoid blaming others and taking things personally

• Master change in the context of other key leadership traits

• Successfully guide your organization into new and promising waters

The Reality of Change delves into the emotional and interpersonal challenges of change, both on the part of the leader and those he or she leads. It's incredible how deeply you will dive into core leadership issues in this short book.

Key takeaway: If you're not a master of change, it's a master of you. It's much better to prepare for the journey before you put your oars in the water.

Excellence begins with you. Let's get started!

Fred Johnson & Paul Metler

FRED JOHNSON is the results-oriented founder and CEO of InitiativeOne, Institute of Business Leadership. Founded in 1999, InitiativeOne is a leadership firm specializing in the development of an organization's most important and only sustainable resource, its people. He and his staff inspire cultural change within an organization by focusing on and improving the behaviors of the organization's key leaders. While pastoring four churches for nearly two decades, Dr. Johnson developed a proprietary model demonstrating a pattern of how people respond to change, both positively and negatively. After training other pastors to be more effective leaders, word soon spread to other corporate leaders and he began to address their leadership teams on how to effectively lead positive change. He is a highly sought-after speaker, and a nationally recognized expert on the interaction and implications of different generations working in the same organization.

He has taught his leadership and organizational process to groups as diverse as senior executives of Fortune 100 companies and family-owned business with less than twenty people. He is famous for his deep belly laughs...and eating copious amounts of Ozzie rolls. He lives with his wife and family in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

DR. PAUL METLER is Vice President of Content Development at InitiativeOne, Institute of Business Leadership. Paul developed his leadership skills early in life, working with his father and brother in their family-owned trucking business. Paul has over twenty years of pastoral experience. Later, under the leadership of Dr. Fred Johnson at InitiativeOne, he began working with executive teams across North America. An expert in organizational leadership, he is a recognized author, speaker and professor, and has worked with leaders in North and South America, as well as Asia.

He lives in Knoxville, Tennessee with his wife, Lynn and son, Nick.
